Six everyday foundations to help the dads in your life feel steady, strong, and supported this June.

💙 A Note to Dads (From One to Another)

Speaking as a dad myself, I know how easily our own wellness slips to the bottom of the list. We're built to provide, protect, and show up — for our kids, our partners, our work, our communities. But what I've learned over decades of practice — and parenting — is that we can't do those things well for long if we let ourselves run on empty.

Father's Day is a quiet reminder that taking care of yourself is part of taking care of the people who depend on you. Not a luxury. Not selfish. Foundational.

You don't need to do everything at once. Pick one or two foundations that feel most relevant to where you are right now — heart, energy, sleep, joints, whatever speaks to you — and start there. Steady, simple habits compound over time, and the body is remarkably good at meeting you halfway when you give it what it needs.

And here's something DeeDee and I often come back to: real wellness has four dimensions — physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Supplements support the physical. The rest comes from showing up, being present, and loving the people in your life ferociously. That part, I suspect, you already know how to do.

Wishing all the dads — and the families who love them — a meaningful Father's Day and a healthy, resilient June.

In good health,

👨‍👧‍👦 June is a meaningful month in our family. Father's Day brings us together to honor the dads in our lives, and it also happens to be National Men's Health Month. Speaking as a dad — and as a retired pediatrician — I've come to believe that caring for the men who hold so much together for their families is one of the most overlooked acts of love a family can offer.

At my Fullscript dispensary, the focus is always on supporting the body's natural systems — never on quick fixes or one-size-fits-all answers. This month's theme is built around six everyday foundations that many active dads have found helpful: heart health, men 50+ wellness, energy and adaptive stress response, healthy metabolism, restful sleep, and active joints.

🌿 Why These Foundations Matter

Men's wellness often gets nudged to the bottom of the to-do list — between work, family, and everyone else's needs. But the body has reliable foundations that benefit from steady support: a strong cardiovascular system, calm nervous-system tone, balanced blood sugar, restorative sleep, and joints that keep up with the active life many dads want to live.

The supplements below aren't about pushing the body harder. They're about giving it the basic raw materials it relies on so it can do what it's designed to do.

❤️ 1. Heart & Circulation Support

The cardiovascular system is one of the most important areas to support over time. Many active men explore:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids 🐟 — well-studied for supporting healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels already in the normal range
  • CoQ10 ⚡ — a nutrient involved in cellular energy production, often considered by those taking statin medications (please discuss with your doctor)
  • Hawthorn 🌿 — traditionally used in herbalism for cardiovascular support

🛡️ 2. Men's 50+ Wellness (Traditional Support)

For dads navigating midlife, certain nutrients have a long history of traditional use:

  • Saw palmetto 🌴 — traditionally used by men 50+ for urinary comfort
  • Zinc 🦪 — an essential mineral concentrated in male reproductive tissues
  • Pumpkin seed extract 🎃 — traditionally used to support urinary health

A note on the research: Studies on saw palmetto for prostate symptoms are mixed. Many men still find it a useful traditional supplement, but it's not a substitute for working with a urologist if you have symptoms or concerns.

⚡ 3. Energy, Stamina & Adaptive Stress

Dads who keep up with kids, work, and life often look to:

  • B-complex vitamins 💊 — involved in cellular energy metabolism
  • Magnesium ⚖️ — essential to hundreds of enzymatic processes, including those involved in energy production
  • Adaptogens 🌱 — herbs like ashwagandha and rhodiola, traditionally used to support the body's response to everyday stress

🍎 4. Healthy Metabolism

Maintaining steady energy and a healthy weight can get harder for many men with age. Some commonly used supports:

  • Berberine 🌾 — studied for its role in supporting blood sugar already in the normal range
  • Chromium ⚙️ — a trace mineral involved in carbohydrate metabolism
  • Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) 🔄 — an antioxidant involved in cellular energy pathways

😌 5. Restful Sleep & Calm

Quality sleep is the foundation that supports everything else:

  • Magnesium glycinate 🌙 — a gentle, well-absorbed form often chosen to support relaxation and sleep quality
  • L-theanine 🍵 — an amino acid from green tea, studied for calm focus without sedation
  • Melatonin 🌃 — supports the body's natural sleep-wake rhythm

💪 6. Active Joints & Muscle Recovery

For dads who hike, golf, garden, or chase kids around the yard:

  • Collagen peptides 🦴 — provides building blocks the body uses for connective tissue
  • MSM 💎 — a sulfur compound commonly used to support joint comfort
  • Curcumin (from turmeric) 🌅 — well-studied for supporting a healthy inflammatory response
