This site is the culmination of the life journey of Paul Thomas, M.D. (retired) — known to his patients and community as Dr. Paul. It has been a life defined by a commitment to standing up for what is right, even when that path has been unpopular or difficult.

Born in Portland, Oregon, Dr. Paul spent most of his childhood in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). There, he refused to raise the Rhodesian flag and was arrested at age 15 for distributing educational material that the Rhodesian government deemed "revolutionary." That early commitment to education and conscience has remained a thread throughout his life's work.
In 2008, Dr. Paul left his pediatric group practice to found Integrative Pediatrics, LLC, where he has cared for more than 13,000 patients. His integrative approach to pediatric care draws on the best from multiple disciplines of medicine, prioritizing the whole child and long-term health outcomes.
PaulThomasMD.com launched in 2015 with a clear mission: to educate and inform parents around the world about research that is too often overlooked but can make a meaningful difference for children's health. The site focuses on how good health is directly supported by avoiding environmental toxins and obtaining nutrients through whole foods — with targeted supplementation when needed. When supplements are appropriate, DrPaulApproved.com offers options Dr. Paul has personally evaluated.

In 2016, Dr. Paul co-authored The Vaccine-Friendly Plan: Dr. Paul's Safe and Effective Approach to Immunity and Health — from Pregnancy through Your Child's Teen Years with Jennifer Margulis, Ph.D., published by Ballantine Books.
A note on The Vaccine-Friendly Plan:
Dr. Paul no longer recommends following the Vaccine-Friendly Plan schedule. His subsequent vaxxed-vs.-unvaccinated research, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (2020), found that children following the VFP had approximately four times the rate of health issues compared to unvaccinated children. The book remains a useful resource for families navigating the CDC schedule, as it provides peer-reviewed context to support more informed decision-making. Additional presentations and supporting materials are available at DoctorsAndScience.com.
More recently, Dr. Paul has continued to examine the evolving CDC and AAP recommended vaccine schedule, which he considers excessive based on his own research and that of others in the field.
In 2021, Dr. Paul founded Against the Wind, now known as With the Wind with Dr. Paul — a weekly show covering health, wellness, and informed decision-making for families. Episodes air live on CHD.TV and are available on demand at WiththeWind.com.
Raising a healthy child in today's world requires proactive, informed decisions — about nutrition before and during pregnancy, about environmental exposures, and about medical interventions including vaccines. These topics are explored in depth through Dr. Paul's videos, research, and weekly show.
