Happy Healthy Family Podcast Interview How A Fever Is A Wonderful Thing with Dr. Paul Thomas (HHF Podcast #11)
How A Fever Is A Wonderful Thing (HHF Podcast #11)I welcome Dr. Paul Thomas to the show. Dr. Paul is a best selling author & holistic pediatrician with a huge practice. Dr. Paul is committed to helping parents make informed and proactive decisions about their children’s health and well-being.
Listener’s of the episode 10 with Dr. William Parker learned about the major risks that come with using Tylenol and acetaminophen, so Dr. Paul and I discuss how and when to treat a fever without acetaminophen. Plus, we talk about navigating a doctor’s visit or trip to the ER where the standard of treatment is to reflexively give acetaminophen.
Dr. Paul and I also discuss flu shots and how the scary statistics we see on the news are quite misleading. We finish the podcast by discussing his new book, The Addiction Spectrum. We pay particular attention to how our children’s addiction to phones and screens are messing up their brains

Paul Thomas and Jennifer Margulis with Geoffrey Riley.
They already teamed up on a book that took a middle road on the vaccine debate.
Now Dr. Paul Thomas and Ashland journalist Jennifer Margulis explore addiction in a new book, The Addiction Spectrum: A Compassionate, Holistic Approach to Recovery.
The book explores the mechanisms of addiction and how they can be countered. The pleasure the brain gets from addictive substances is immense, and for most people it does not work to "just say no."
The co-authors spend an hour in the studio helping us better understand the components of addiction and how they can be defeated.
Addiction hits all of us.
Whether it’s ourselves or a loved one, addiction is an epidemic.
Some of us may not even be aware we are addicted, such as to screen time, which is growing on us all, and especially our kids with their phones and apps that give frequent dopamine hits.
The stats on addiction are startling: it affects over 2 million people and kills 115 of them every single day. Paul Thomas, M.D. points out in his new book, The Addiction Spectrum, that drug overdose is now the leading cause of death for Americans under fifty.
Whether it’s opioids, for which addiction is skyrocketing, alcohol, gambling and now screen time, more than ever, we need effective strategies and a plan. The amount of misery, damage and pain is overwhelming and can break a family and lead to severe crises, if not suicide.
30 experts explore the new face of addiction and what we can do to recover and end the suffering. These informative presentations will provide a 360 degree view of the current issues we all face and provide invaluable insights about the path to recovery. This comprehensive summit is the first of its kind to address the worldwide epidemic. Please join us as the brightest minds provide the latest science, research, and approaches to recovery.
This summit is about finally finding solutions we can use today to the national epidemic of addiction. People are dying, children are becoming addicted, entire towns and cities are falling victim to opioid and prescription drug addictions. Clearly conventional medicine won’t fix this problem, so we have to. This summit is about bringing together 30 experts in functional medicine, addiction recovery, mindfulness, stress-reduction, alternative health, and more to investigate the solutions that are working, and to bring them to the people who need them most.
