Listener’s of the episode 10 with Dr. William Parker learned about the major risks that come with using Tylenol and acetaminophen, so Dr. Paul and I discuss how and when to treat a fever without acetaminophen. Plus, we talk about navigating a doctor’s visit or trip to the ER where the standard of treatment is to reflexively give acetaminophen.
Dr. Paul and I also discuss flu shots and how the scary statistics we see on the news are quite misleading. We finish the podcast by discussing his new book, The Addiction Spectrum. We pay particular attention to how our children’s addiction to phones and screens are messing up their brains

Now Dr. Paul Thomas and Ashland journalist Jennifer Margulis explore addiction in a new book, The Addiction Spectrum: A Compassionate, Holistic Approach to Recovery.
The book explores the mechanisms of addiction and how they can be countered. The pleasure the brain gets from addictive substances is immense, and for most people it does not work to "just say no."
The co-authors spend an hour in the studio helping us better understand the components of addiction and how they can be defeated.

Whether it’s ourselves or a loved one, addiction is an epidemic.
Some of us may not even be aware we are addicted, such as to screen time, which is growing on us all, and especially our kids with their phones and apps that give frequent dopamine hits.
The stats on addiction are startling: it affects over 2 million people and kills 115 of them every single day. Paul Thomas, M.D. points out in his new book, The Addiction Spectrum, that drug overdose is now the leading cause of death for Americans under fifty.
Whether it’s opioids, for which addiction is skyrocketing, alcohol, gambling and now screen time, more than ever, we need effective strategies and a plan. The amount of misery, damage and pain is overwhelming and can break a family and lead to severe crises, if not suicide.
